VSB Neue Energien Deutschland GmbH and the company erneuerbare energien europa e3 GmbH, both project developers in the renewable energy sector, are pleased to announce the successful commissioning of three wind turbines at the Quellendorf wind farm in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district of Saxony-Anhalt.

The new turbines, which have been added to the existing Quellendorf wind farm, are two Vestas V150 with a capacity of 5.6 MW each and one Vestas V136 with a capacity of 4.2 MW, giving a total capacity of 15.4 MW. The new turbines will generate around 48 GWh of electricity per year – enough to provide sustainable green power to around 12,000 four-person households.

The expansion of the Quellendorf wind farm to a total of 25 turbines was preceded by an extensive planning and approval process. The project also included repowering, which involved the decommissioning and dismantling of two existing wind turbines in the Ditfurt district.

The turbines will be shut down during nearby agricultural activities to protect foraging birds of prey. Similarly, they will be switched off on mild, low-wind summer nights, when bats are most active.

Compensation and substitution measures in the surrounding area are also part of the project, including the demolition and unsealing of areas in Radegast, Großpaschleben and Kleinpaschleben, the creation of a meadow orchard near Kleinpaschleben, and the planting of trees and hedges near Diesdorf, Libbesdorf and Köthen.

“The successful commissioning of the wind turbines in Quellendorf is an important contribution to the sustainable energy goals of the region,” says Thomas Winkler, Managing Director of VSB Neue Energien Deutschland GmbH, the company responsible for planning and construction. “We would like to thank everyone involved, especially the districts of Osternienburger Land and Südliches Anhalt, for their support and cooperation.”

Jens Schöttler, Managing Director of e3 GmbH, adds: “The successful development of the Quellendorf wind farm shows how important it is for project developers and communities to work together to create an environmentally friendly energy landscape that benefits everyone.”

Three new powerful turbines, including the Vestas V136 (4.2 MW) pictured here, were erected by VSB and e3 at the Quellendorf wind farm and have now been commissioned. Together with two Vestas V150 (5.6 MW each), the turbines will generate 48 GWh of sustainable electricity annually, supplying around 12,000 households with green energy.
