Good Reasons to Celebrate: Public Festival for the Inauguration of the VSB Wind Farm in Vockenrod on 6th September and Groundbreaking for the Expansion of the Wind Farm

In March of this year, the Vockenrod Wind Farm, located in the municipality of Antrifttal, commenced operations. Now, a wind farm festival will be held at the site of the three turbines to mark the occasion. The wind farm has a nominal capacity of 17.1 megawatts (MW). At the same time, construction work will begin on two additional turbines, which will expand the wind farm by 11.4 MW. Commissioning is scheduled for spring 2026.
On 6th September, at a summer festival at the Vockenrod Wind Farm, the VSB Group will thank all landowners, project participants, and local residents for their collaboration. VSB Germany’s Managing Director, Thomas Winkler, will also warmly welcome District Administrator Dr. Mischak, and the Mayor of Antrifttal, Dietmar Krist, along with local leaders from the town of Alsfeld: Stefan Oberst, Sebastian Zinn, Ralf Lämmer, and Axel Möller. The celebrations will take place at the wind farm, directly by the L3145 road between Vockenrod and Fischbach. Guests can look forward to a vibrant festival with live music, informative talks on wind energy, and grilled specialities. Children will be entertained with a bouncy castle, face painting, and a kids' disco.
“The successful operation of the Vockenrod Wind Farm is the result of excellent collaboration between all involved parties and partners. With the expansion of the wind farm, we are sending a strong signal for the future of renewable energy in central Hesse. We are excited to continue achieving milestones together and contributing to a sustainable and environmentally friendly energy supply,” said Thomas Winkler, Managing Director of VSB Germany, the company responsible for planning and construction.
“The conditions for the expansion of renewable energy in Hesse are favourable, with approval processes accelerating and wind energy development gaining momentum. This creates opportunities for investment in climate protection,” affirmed Dr. Felix Grolman, CEO of the VSB Group.
VSB and the region are now connected through numerous wind farms, and the collaboration continues: the areas for the expansion of the Vockenrod Wind Farm are currently being prepared. Construction of the cable route is set to begin in October, and road works will also start later this year. Additionally, the Vockenrod substation in Alsfeld will be upgraded to accommodate the connection of the two new turbines. The entire construction project will be monitored by environmental, soil science, and archaeological experts.
Foundation work for the northern expansion is expected to begin in late spring 2025. The wind farm will be expanded by two additional identical turbines of the Nordex N149-5.X type, with their towers being erected from summer 2025 onwards. The major components of the turbines will once again be manoeuvred to the wind farm using a self-propelled vehicle (Blade Lifter) from the loading site near the Alsfeld-Ost motorway exit via Ludwigsplatz in Alsfeld. This transport method allows for minimal impact on the natural environment and ensures the most space-efficient work possible. The installation of the wind turbines will be completed by the end of 2025. Interior work, connection of the turbines, and their commissioning will follow in spring 2026.
Moreover, the VSB Group, through its Kassel regional office, is in active discussions with neighbouring municipalities to further advance the development of additional wind farms, including a repowering project in Gemünden (Felda).
