New habitats for birds, lizards and bats

A lot has happened at the site since the beginning of the year. Dismantling of the first seven wind turbines has been completed. The public display of the planning documents ended at the end of March.

Preparations for second phase of construction
A lot has happened at the site since the beginning of the year. Further tree clearing in the project area has created space for the dismantling of the remaining 43 old-generation wind turbines. The clearing work was completed in February in order to respect the dormancy period for breeding birds, which lasts from early March to late September. All trees felled as part of the wind farm project will be compensated for and replanted elsewhere.

New habitats for lizards and bats
Dismantling of the first seven wind turbines has been completed. The next phase of construction will begin in October. The presence of sand lizards on the site has been confirmed. For us, this means that ground work cannot start until there are no more sand lizards on the site. In order to prevent the lizards from migrating into the areas of the planned construction work, lizard fences with a total length of approximately 10 km will be erected throughout the wind farm area. VSB has already created new habitats for the lizards outside the construction area. In addition, bat boxes have been installed along the Morgengraben north of the wind farm near Gentha to prevent the loss of roosts. VSB’s ecological construction supervision ensures that these measures are carried out properly and professionally.

Submission of approval documents
The public display of the planning documents ended at the end of March. Interested parties were able to view them and submit any objections. We are very pleased that there were only minor objections. This means that the process can be accelerated to a minimum, as there is no need for a public hearing.
