A fair wind for Alsfeld

Hesse plans to cover its demand for electricity and heat fully by renewable energies by 2050. Two percent of the country’s surface is designated as a potential location for wind energy turbines. Homberg windfarm will help to meet these targets. With an installed capacity of 10.35 MW, the windfarm will supply an average of about 9,400 two-person-households with green energy, thus avoiding about 22,600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Treating the environment with care

…is our claim already when entering the first planning stages. In Homberg, this included that we mainly used (yet sometimes extended) the existing forestry road system not only for transport, but also for installing the cable route. Two turbine sites have been positioned on clearings, which further reduced the need for clearings. Old tree populations in the working forest were spared. In the course of the compensatory measures, ecologically valuable woodlands with domestic trees were planted.

Reliable fire protection

Planning a windfarm in the forest, fire protection will be one of the first issues to consider. Consequently, substantial fire precautions were coordinated with the local authorities already during the approval procedure. Among the accorded measures was the installation of an integrated fire-extinguishing system and an automatic breaking and shutdown-system.
