Wind Farm Pölzig: VSB Group and aventron AG Enable Municipal Participation in Green Energy Revenues

Positive news for the municipalities surrounding the Pölzig wind farm: the operators of Wind Farm Pölzig I and II, VSB Gruppe and aventron AG, will in future offer local authorities a financial participation in the revenues generated from electricity production. An amount of 0.2 euro cents per kilowatt-hour fed into the grid will be allocated to municipal budgets – funds that may be used at the municipalities’ discretion for local projects such as infrastructure development, climate protection initiatives or social programs
Municipal participation in wind energy projects is becoming an increasingly important pillar of local value creation for communities in Thuringia. “Through this voluntary participation in our existing wind farm, we want to clearly demonstrate that the energy transition can only succeed through joint action, participation and public acceptance,” says Thomas Winkler, Managing Director of VSB Deutschland. Sonja Gonschorek, Head of the Erfurt Regional Office, adds: “The additional revenues open up new financial flexibility for the municipality. We are committed to supporting this partnership-based approach over the long term.”
The initiative follows the Thuringian Wind Energy Participation Act (Thüringer Windbeteiligungsgesetz), which entered into force in mid-2024. The law requires operators of newly constructed wind turbines to provide financial participation to host municipalities. No such obligation applies to existing installations. By voluntarily extending participation to its operating wind farm, VSB is setting an example of fair cooperation and regional value creation. Based on historical average energy output, recurring additional revenues of up to EUR 55,000 per year could be generated. The municipal councils will now review the proposal and decide on the next steps.
The Pölzig wind farm, developed by VSB Group, comprises three wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 9.85 MW (two turbines with 3.2 MW each and one turbine with 3.45 MW). Since commissioning in 2015 and 2019, the turbines have reliably supplied green electricity to the grid and will now also contribute to strengthening municipal finances.
