VSB, an international project developer with six locations in Germany, welcomes the Wind Summit announced by Robert Habeck, Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection. The aim of the summit on 22 March is to accelerate the expansion of onshore wind energy in Germany.

VSB welcomes the Federal Government's initiative to remove obstacles to the expansion of onshore wind energy and supports the catalogue of support measures put forward by the German Wind Energy Association. The company is aware of the importance of the energy turnaround and the need for joint efforts across different departments and company levels. For more than 25 years, the project developer of wind and solar farms has been actively contributing to the success of the energy turnaround.

The VSB Group is currently implementing one of Europe's largest onshore repowering projects in Saxony-Anhalt. With a total capacity of 105.6 MW, the repowering wind farm will generate around 235 GWh of electricity per year - enough to supply a city the size of Regensburg with clean, affordable and regionally produced energy.

The company is actively supporting the German government's plan to expand onshore wind energy to a total installed capacity of 115 GW by 2030. To achieve this goal, the industry would need to install six new wind turbines per day with an average capacity of 4.2 megawatts each by the end of 2029 - compared to 551 new wind turbines in 2022, or 1.5 turbines per day.

"We are convinced that wind energy is indispensable for solving the climate crisis. We want to make our contribution to this," says Frédéric Lanoë, CEO of the VSB Group. "In order to achieve the necessary speed in the expansion of wind energy, we need above all more areas and accelerated approval procedures. We expect determination, coordination and constructive bases for action from politicians."

The Wind Summit comes at a critical time for the German wind industry. Despite ambitious renewable energy targets, the expansion of onshore wind energy has stalled in recent years due to regulatory and bureaucratic obstacles. The Wind Summit provides an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss concrete solutions to these challenges and to set the course for a sustainable wind energy industry in Germany.
