More green electricity for Hesse: VSB starts construction of Vockenrod wind farm

Project developer VSB is starting preparations for the construction of the Vockenrod wind farm on the territory of the municipality of Antrifttal in the Vogelsberg district of central Hesse. The project comprises three Nordex N149-5.X wind turbines with a total rated output of 17.1 megawatts (MW).
In purely mathematical terms, this will be able to supply around 14,100 average households with green electricity, while at the same time saving around 34,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. Commissioning is planned for the first quarter of 2024.
The locations of the wind turbines are embedded in a hilly landscape along the national road L3145, the adjacent wind farm Ruhlkirchen and the Hengelberg. The new wind farm will be erected mainly on arable land. One turbine will be located on forestry land owned by HessenForst.
Currently, the first civil engineering measures in the form of topsoil removal are in full swing; in parallel, construction equipment and materials are being delivered and traffic infrastructure measures (such as road widening) are being carried out. The expansion of the road connection to the L3145, the construction of the road and crane parking areas and the laying of the cable route are expected to follow by May 2023. All measures are closely accompanied by ecological, hydrogeological, pedological and archaeological construction monitoring.
