VSB Integrated Energy Solutions electrifies [k]nord’s commercial vehicle fleet

Environmental and waste management service provider [k]nord is embarking on zero-emission logistics. Together with VSB Integrated Energy Solutions (VSB IES), the mid-sized company based in Oldenburg has commissioned its first charging infrastructure for electric trucks. With the deployment of an electric Volvo truck, [k]nord is initiating the gradual conversion of its fleet – a step that is already generating economic benefits today and will ultimately lead to a fully integrated energy system.
Fast charging for daily logistics operations
VSB IES, a company of the VSB Group, has installed a 400 kW fast charger with two charging points at [k]nord’s site. The system is tailored to the requirements of a logistics location: short charging times, robust hardware and intelligent load management that distributes energy according to demand. Additional electric vehicles have already been ordered.
Next expansion stage: battery storage
At present, [k]nord charges its vehicles from the grid as well as from its own photovoltaic system; in future, the system will be expanded to include a battery storage unit. This will increase the self-consumption rate and security of supply while reducing peak loads. As a result, the electric fleet will become more economical, contributing to long-term stable energy costs.
Voices from the project
“Electrification does not work with isolated components, but only as an integrated system,” says Maximilian Gauß, Senior Sales Manager at VSB Integrated Energy Solutions. “At [k]nord, we combine charging infrastructure, load management and renewable energy in such a way that operations run reliably today and can be expanded tomorrow – with technical integrity and economic predictability.”
“The energy transition will be decided in the business sector. Companies today primarily need planning certainty,” adds Frederic Wagner, Managing Director of VSB Integrated Energy Solutions. “With intelligent load management, battery storage systems and renewable sourcing models, we optimise energy costs at the site. In this way, we help companies actively shape their energy supply – not only as consumers, but as key players in the energy transition.”
“For us, the transformation is a logical step,” explains Andreas Lange, Managing Director at [k]nord. “Each electric truck allows us to save around 72 tonnes of CO₂ per year, benefit from toll exemptions until 2031 and strengthen our cost structure. The solution from VSB IES enables us to future-proof our fleet step by step.”
“E-trucks require a carefully designed energy architecture to unlock their full potential,” adds Holger Albermann, Key Account Manager at Volvo Group Trucks Central Europe. “The project at [k]nord demonstrates how mid-sized companies can embark on fleet electrification in a technically sound, economically viable and sustainable way by leveraging intelligent charging infrastructure and system integration.”
