Project developer and operator VSB is focusing on further regionalisation as renewable energies go from strength to strength in Italy. It has opened a new office in the capital Rome for this purpose. Wind energy and photovoltaic projects in central Italy will be handled from here in the future. This includes both securing land and approval planning all the way to construction.

VSB has been planning and developing wind energy and photovoltaic projects in Italy since 2011. The Rome location is an ideal addition to VSB’s existing branches in Palermo and Potenza, which have so far mainly served the country’s southern regions.

“The spatial proximity to the Italian non-profit environmental organisations, to the Italian Wind and Solar Energy Associations, but also to national authorities, offers the best prerequisites for sharing experience and embarking on joint initiatives. This will allow us to drive the Italian energy transition even more efficiently,” said Giuseppe de Benedictis, General Manager of VSB in Italy, who is pleased about the new opportunities and potential in the growing Italian market.

In order to achieve the shared European climate targets, Italy is aiming to source 32 per cent of the total energy needs from renewables by 2030. This will see its total photovoltaics and wind power capacity grow from 30 GW today to at least 70 GW in 2030, with renewable energies playing the most important role in the country’s energy mix in the future. The VSB Group looks forward to actively accompanying this change and to speeding up the expansion of wind and solar.
