VSB Germany successfully completes expansion of the Vockenrod wind farm

With the commissioning of the second wind turbine, VSB Germany has completed the expansion of the Vockenrod wind farm as planned. The site now comprises a total of five turbines generating climate-friendly electricity and making a further contribution to the expansion of renewable energy in the German state of Hesse.
The expansion includes two Nordex N149-5.X wind turbines with a combined installed capacity of 11.4 megawatts (MW). The first phase of the wind farm, consisting of three identical turbines with a total installed capacity of 17.1 MW, was fully commissioned in spring 2024. With the completion of the second phase, the Vockenrod wind farm now consists of five wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 28.5 MW.
Following the completion of site preparation and foundation works in 2024, the two towers were erected and the technical components installed during the following year. A particular milestone was the transport of the rotor blades. Using a self-propelled blade transporter, known as a "blade lifter", the blades were safely transported at night from the transshipment point near the Alsfeld-Ost motorway exit to the wind farm site. After the completion of the electrical works and grid connection, both wind turbines were commissioned as planned during the first half of 2026.
Following the completion of the expansion, the Vockenrod wind farm is expected to achieve a net annual energy yield of approximately 63.1 million kWh. This corresponds to the annual electricity demand of around 19,700 households. At the same time, the generation of climate-friendly electricity will avoid approximately 47,300 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year, making an important contribution to a sustainable energy supply.
