VSB France: Start of construction for Pays d’Auge wind farm

With the start of construction on the Pays d’Auge wind farm, VSB France is realising its largest project to date. The wind farm comprises seven Nordex N149 turbines, each with a capacity of 5.7 megawatts (MW), reaching a total output of 39.9 MW.

Located in the municipalities of Barou-en-Auge and Norrey-en-Auge in the Calvados department, the wind farm will feature seven turbines in total – four in Norrey-en-Auge and three in Barou-en-Auge. Construction began in September 2025, with commissioning scheduled for 2027. VSB is combining technology with ecology: three kilometres of new hedgerows will be planted and five hectares of monoculture farmland will be transformed into diverse habitats for flora and fauna.

“The turbines will generate 70 GWh of clean electricity annually, avoiding 21,000 tonnes of CO₂. That’s enough to supply around 35,000 people with renewable energy each year – a clear gain for the energy transition,” says Maël Lagarde, Managing Director of VSB France.

A milestone in France
“Pays d’Auge is our largest project in France so far. It highlights the country’s significant potential and sends a clear signal that expanding renewable energy is both necessary and the right way forward,” says Dr Felix Grolman, CEO of the VSB Group.

France currently has around 23.5 gigawatts (GW) of installed onshore wind capacity and aims to expand this to at least 33 GW by 2030. The industry, however, sees much greater potential: installed capacity could even double in the coming years. “With projects like Pays d’Auge we are making our contribution and further driving the energy transition in France,” adds Grolman.

Across Europe, some 6.8 GW of new wind power capacity was installed in the first half of 2025 – clear progress, but compared to the EU’s target of 30 GW per year, the pace is still only about one-fifth of what is required.

Momentum in other markets
Beyond France, the VSB Group continues to expand its activities: in Germany, more than 800 MW of wind, solar PV and battery storage projects are currently in the permitting process. With the 105.6 MW repowering of the Elster wind farm, VSB has already connected one of Europe’s largest projects of its kind to the grid. The Löberitz Wind & PV hybrid project – combining a 21.6 MW wind farm with a 19 MWp ground-mounted solar installation – is now under development. In Poland, VSB is developing the 190.8 MW Miejska Górka wind farm together with TAURON, one of the country’s largest energy utilities.
