A Day to Celebrate: Repowering Wind Farm Elster Officially Inaugurated

 / 21.08.2025

On 15 August 2025, we celebrated the official inauguration of Repowering Wind Farm Elster together with many guests, partners and supporters. It was a day full of energy, great conversations and unforgettable moments – and we are delighted that so many local residents joined us to experience this special occasion.

The celebrations began with the official opening ceremony of the wind farm. During a symbolic buzzer moment, the repowered wind farm was officially put into operation. With an installed capacity of 105.4 megawatts, Repowering Wind Farm Elster is one of the most powerful repowering projects in Europe. Sixteen modern turbines replace fifty older ones and now generate six times more green electricity – enough to supply around 67,000 households with clean energy in the future.

After the official opening, we concluded the day with a family festival. Many local residents took the opportunity to ask questions, exchange ideas and celebrate together. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited us despite the very warm temperatures and shared this special day with us!

And the journey continues: In autumn 2025, the second construction phase of the project will begin with the installation of two additional turbines. This will allow us to make an even greater contribution to the energy transition and the sustainable supply of clean electricity in our region.

Finally, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to all guests, partners and supporters who made this inauguration possible. We look forward to continuing our journey towards a sustainable energy future together with you.

The inauguration was carried out by (from left to right): Michael Jahn (Mayor of Jessen), Christian Tylsch (District Administrator of Wittenberg District), Christian Essiger (Head of Onshore Germany, Siemens Gamesa), Thomas Winkler (Managing Director, VSB Germany), Prof. Dr Armin Willingmann (Minister for Science, Energy, Climate Protection and the Environment of Saxony-Anhalt) and Peter Müller (Mayor of Zahna-Elster).
