[PR] VSB France Celebrates Another Milestone with the Inauguration of the Fadoumal Wind Farm

Maël Lagarde, Managing Director of VSB France, an independent renewable energy producer, and Francis Gibert, Mayor of Arzenc-de-Randon, officially inaugurated the Fadoumal Wind Farm on Friday, 12 June, located in Arzenc-de-Randon, Lozère (southern France).
Located in the municipality of Arzenc-de-Randon in the Lozère department, the Fadoumal Wind Farm comprises six Enercon E82 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.3 MW, for a total installed capacity of 13.8 MW. The wind farm generates enough renewable electricity to meet the annual power consumption of more than 13,000 residents while avoiding approximately 8,400 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. VSB France developed and constructed the project and is responsible for its ongoing technical and administrative management.
The Fadoumal Wind Farm features two distinctive characteristics. First, the wind farm is located at an altitude of 1,420 metres. This high-altitude setting played a significant role in the organisation of the construction works. The project schedule was adapted to seasonal constraints, including a winter shutdown period due to weather conditions. Second, all six wind turbines are equipped with a next-generation, patented 3D Bird Detection System (BDS) supplied by BIOSECO, VSB France’s European technology partner. Given the site's high-altitude location and forested environment, the decision was made to equip the entire wind farm with this state-of-the-art system to ensure optimal bird protection. Without curtailing turbine operations under normal conditions, the BDS first activates a visual deterrent when a bird is detected and, if necessary, triggers a temporary turbine shutdown that remains in place for as long as the bird stays within the risk zone. This solution reflects VSB France’s ongoing commitment to biodiversity conservation and the protection of local wildlife.
With the commissioning of the Fadoumal Wind Farm, VSB France further strengthens its presence in the Occitanie region, bringing the total installed capacity it manages—both on its own behalf and for third parties—to more than 50 MW.
“Building at high altitude is always a challenge,” said Maël Lagarde, Managing Director of VSB France. “However, we successfully overcame those challenges and are delighted to inaugurate this wind farm, which incorporates the latest technological innovations to minimise its impact on birdlife. This is a significant step forward in reconciling nature conservation with the production of low-carbon energy.”
“The municipality of Arzenc-de-Randon welcomes the successful completion of this project, which gives our community the opportunity to contribute to France’s energy transition. This is more important than ever, both in terms of decarbonisation and strengthening our energy independence,” added Francis Gibert, Mayor of Arzenc-de-Randon.
« “Fadoumal Wind Farm perfectly illustrates what sets VSB apart: its technical expertise, strong local presence, and commitment to nature and biodiversity. Despite challenging topographical and climatic conditions, VSB France successfully delivered a high-performing project that also integrates innovative technologies to protect birdlife. In doing so, we are strengthening our position in France while making a significant contribution to a secure and sustainable energy supply across Europe,” added Dr. Felix Grolman, CEO of the VSB Group. »
