VSB France Publishes Its First Agrivoltaics Co-Activity Charter

On the occasion of its participation in the third edition of the Rencontres de l’Agrivoltaïsme, VSB France, a power producer, is publishing its first Agrivoltaics Co-Activity Charter and reaffirming its ambition to achieve an equal balance of new projects under development across its two core renewable energy technologies.
Agrivoltaics: creating synergies to support sustainable agriculture
The agricultural sector is facing multiple challenges that threaten both its long-term viability and profitability. Agrivoltaics can help secure farmers’ income while making productive use of less fertile land or farmland affected by increasingly challenging weather conditions.
However, integrating an agrivoltaic facility into an existing farming operation requires adjustments to agricultural practices and involves specific constraints that must be taken into account. It is therefore essential for developers to work closely and transparently with farmers throughout the project in order to ensure the long-term success of both the agricultural activity and the renewable energy project.
To address these challenges, ensure compliance with French legislation – which requires agriculture to remain the primary activity – and establish best practices, VSB France has developed an Agrivoltaics Co-Activity Charter. The Charter provides a framework for the project from the outset and sets out the key stages involved in the development and operation of an agrivoltaic facility, helping to ensure its effective management while safeguarding the farming activity.
Its aim is to promote transparency between all stakeholders, anticipate each stage of the project and establish clear rules for collaboration in areas such as safety, site access, scheduling and regulatory compliance.
Developing responsible agrivoltaics by building on the expertise of our teams
The development of agrivoltaics forms part of VSB France’s strategic plan to achieve a balanced portfolio across its two core renewable energy technologies. To support this ambition, VSB has chosen to focus primarily on livestock farming and large-scale arable farming projects across France.
VSB France has also stepped up its investment in employee training to strengthen its teams’ expertise in the agricultural sector. Several employees who were historically specialised in wind energy have been supported in developing new skills and expertise. VSB France has also developed financial and legal expertise specifically tailored to agrivoltaic projects.
“Farmers are entrepreneurs who know how to adapt their businesses and working methods, with one important characteristic: they generally operate according to annual or multi-year cycles. It is therefore particularly important to anticipate, together with them, the adaptations required to integrate an agrivoltaic project into their farming operations,” explained Maël Lagarde, Managing Director of VSB France.
“Farmers also expect transparency when it comes to co-activity between agricultural and energy operations. That is precisely the purpose of our Charter: to address these issues clearly and provide answers to all their questions.”
*The third edition of the Rencontres de l’Agrivoltaïsme will take place on 24 September 2026 at the headquarters of Chambres d’agriculture France in Paris. The programme will cover key topics including project deployment, agronomic monitoring, insurance, grid connection and electricity storage.
