VSB France: 25 Years of Renewable Energy Development in France

 / Nîmes (France) / 01.10.2026

On the occasion of the Colloque National de France Renouvelables, taking place in Paris on 7 and 8 October (1), VSB France looks back on 25 years of company development. Since its foundation in 2001, the company has built around 60 wind farms and developed approximately 30 photovoltaic plants across France.

25 years of renewable energy project development
VSB France was founded in Tournon-sur-Rhône in 2001. In 2006, the company commissioned its first wind farm in Saint-Agrève in the Ardèche department, followed in 2010 by its first photovoltaic plants in the Gard department.

Over the following years, VSB France steadily expanded its activities and presence across the country. Since 2020, the company has placed greater emphasis on developing and constructing projects for its own portfolio as part of its independent power producer model. During this period, VSB France also signed its first Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

In 2025, VSB France became part of TotalEnergies. That same year, the company commissioned a 9 MWp photovoltaic plant in Druelle-Balsac in the Aveyron department and began construction of its largest wind farm to date, a 40 MW project in the Calvados department.

At the beginning of 2026, VSB France commissioned two further wind farms with a combined capacity of 45 MW. In parallel, the company continues to pursue activities in repowering and agrivoltaics.

Today, VSB France employs around 100 people. Over the past 25 years, the company has installed wind energy capacity equivalent to around 300 wind turbines, built around 60 wind farms and developed approximately 30 photovoltaic plants.

Project development in dialogue with local stakeholders
Engaging municipalities and local stakeholders has been a central part of VSB France’s approach to project development since the company was founded. Depending on the project and its stage of development, VSB France engages with local authorities, residents, landowners, farmers, associations and local businesses.

“VSB France has always followed a clear principle: we develop projects with the involvement of the municipalities concerned. They are important partners and should play an active role in the development of renewable energy in their local communities,” explains Maël Lagarde, Managing Director of VSB France.

People and professional development.
Employee training and development, as well as supporting the next generation of professionals, are also part of VSB France’s development. The company supports practical training and professional development programmes and has entered into a partnership with the Campus des Métiers et des Qualifications d’Excellence Habitat, Énergies Renouvelables et Éco-construction (CMQE HEREC).

VSB France has been certified as a Great Place To Work since 2023.
“The development of VSB France has been closely linked to the expansion of renewable energy in France,” says Maël Lagarde. “Following a period of strong growth, we are now focusing our activities on key strategic priorities. What remains essential for us is developing projects together with local municipalities and stakeholders.”
