Third Wind Turbine Under Construction, Playground Renovation Begins, Community Investment Simplified

 / 10.02.2025

The repowering wind farm continues to grow: the third wind turbine is currently being installed. At the same time, a groundbreaking ceremony in Zahna-Elster marked the beginning of the playground renovation – made possible by a €26,000 donation from VSB. Additionally, the VSB Community Investment scheme remains open, with a simplified process and an extended deadline until the end of August 2025.

Construction work at the wind farm is progressing rapidly. All major components for the ten wind turbines have already been fully delivered to the site between Listerfehrda and Gentha. The steel tower segments, manufactured by SAM Stahlturm- & Apparatebau Magdeburg GmbH, originate from Magdeburg. The rotor blades, nacelles, hubs and drive trains are manufactured by Siemens Gamesa in Portugal, transported by ship to the Dutch port of Moerdijk and then transported by heavy-duty transport to the construction site.

A significant milestone was reached on 15 January 2025: the first wind turbine was completed, followed by the second one nearly two weeks later. While the interior work of these two turbines is already in full swing, the third wind turbine is currently under construction.

More Shade for the Playground in Zahna-Elster

Alongside the progress at the construction site, positive developments are also taking place in the region: a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Zahna-Elster to commence the renovation of the playground on Gielsdorfer Straße. VSB is supporting this project with a dedicated donation of €26,000.

In the first phase of construction, 24 new trees have already been planted, including lime, ash, maple, and elm, which will provide shade and improve the climate in the future. Additional elements such as nesting boxes, a fieldstone pile for lizards and hedgehogs, and an insect hotel will follow in spring. The planning was carried out by the NABU Jessener Land regional group under the leadership of Dr Bernd Simon, and the implementation is being managed by Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau Kühn from Jessen.

The support for the playground renovation goes beyond the legally required compensation measures. Back in 2021, another voluntary contribution enabled the planting of an orchard with 36 fruit trees on Himmelsberg in Jessen.
