The change towards a climate friendly and renewable-based energy system makes good progress in Saxony-Anhalt.  Luko windfarm is a part of this success story. Together with project partner Sabowind, VSB could commission the 30-MW-windfarm on schedule in September 2017. The twelve turbines set near the City of Coswig in the Anhalt region were connected to the grid after a remarkably short construction period of six months.

Bringing technology and nature together

The natural scenery changes with the installation of a windfarm. In Luko, various measures helped to compensate for this interference. As an example, large hedges and a perennial flower strip were planted at the outskirts of Luko – limiting the windfarm’s visibility and creating a valuable living space for insects and birds. Moreover, near Jeber-Bergfrieden, two old stables with a surface are of more than 1,000 m² were demolished. Later, the area was planted with local woody plants and thus returned to nature. Also, the natural scenery of the Elbe meadow could be enhanced with the demolition of the old waterworks in Buro. Besides its aesthetic benefits, the renaturation made the ground pervious for water again.

To make the region benefit from wind energy in multiple ways, VSB charitably supports the districts Luko and Thießen. The donation of 10,000 € will be used for the public good, e.g. by renewing local playgrounds.
