A gain for the environment

In 2008, VSB brought Spremberg Windfarm to grid. It is located in Brandenburg, nearby the lignite fired power plant “Schwarze Pumpe”. The building and operation permit according to the Federal Immission Control Act (Bundes-Immissionsschutzgesetz) had been granted in March 2007.

Finding solutions for a demanding site

When it comes to the protection of species, the location near Spremberg featured various requirements. With the black grouse, the European nightjar and the wood lark, three strictly protected
species are resident in this area.

To find solutions for all matters of environmental planning, a close cooperation with important players was sought for, involving the City of Spremberg, which also owns the land the windfarm is built on, such as the local nature conservation authories, the Department of Forestry Peitz and the Foundation for Environmental Protection Brandenburg.    

Compensation measures

On municipal areas, measures for wildlife conservation were put into practice regarding the wood lark and the nightjar, which are both species of birds. Complying forestry interests, spaces for reforestation were spared during the planning of the wind farm. Closely cooperating with the nature conservation authories, the Reuthener Moor, a march with a size of 20 hectares, was recultivated. To preserve the critically endangered habitat, drainage ditches were backfilled between October and December, so that the water level could rise permanently.
